Once a well-respected member of the town council, a rising life expectancy in London has driven the Undertaker into a desperate and parasitic existence.  Having laid off every member of his parlour staff, save his coffin-maker, Gerald Muldoon, the Undertaker now finds his operation too small to police the gutters and byways for the precious dead.  With the business at an all-time low, time is running out.  Who would suspect that the Undertaker is in fact the Guardian to an ancient secret that, if unleashed, could bring all London to ruin?
